following an earthqauke, how long would it take a p-wave, moving in a straight line with a speed of 5 km/s, to reach earth's opposite side?

That's difficult to answer since the givens contradict each other: p-wave speed varies as a function of its depth in the Earth, but you gave a constant speed. Wikipedia says seismic p-wave speeds vary between 6 and almost 14 km/sec.

it appears that you can. most people say that homemade stuff works better in the oven at low temps like 100-200 degrees, and the play-doh manufacturers advise against it of course. But some mom's on some mom websites say that it can be done
