What does it mean to say a cell phone is "unlocked"? If I buy a replacement T-Mobile phone on eBay does it need to say unlocked? Join or Log In to answer.

Unlocked allows a phone locked to one network to be used on another. if you buy a t-mobile phone and want to use it on t-moble's network you do NOT need it to be unlocked.

Almost. it only works for GSM Service (where you need a SIM card) an unocked TMO phone will not work with Verizon but will work with say ATT.
