It could be from the dogfennel that used to grow wild there or perhaps, because of the slaughter houses just north of the DOGPATCH the pack of wild dogs that feed on the scraps form that industry lived over in the area

Actually, looks like a Ringtail, but check out the nose of a Coati, I think it looks more like those.
